A lucrative move to lure counterfeit companies out of China to India, which has the advantage of claiming a carbon credit, has revealed that only 5 percent or about 18 percent of the 36 crores LED bulbs have been distributed in Gamda under the Gram Ujala scheme. Electricity will also be promoted in the surrounding area, with EESL’s move attracting outside companies starting with 10 million bulbs. Road LED bulbs will be offered. A total investment of Rs 4,000 crore will be made for this, out of which Rs 600 crore will come from rural consumers and the rest will come from carbon credit revenue. Similarly, all bulbs will be offered in phases. According to ESL, India is currently the world’s second-largest market for LED bulbs. The Ujala scheme will also ensure the supply of seeds.
