The Union Cabinet today announced a Rs 2,000 crore scholarship scheme for scheduled caste students. Union Minister Thawarchand Gehlot claimed that the scheme will benefit four crore students in the country in five years. The central government will provide Rs 5,000 crore for the scheme, while the rest will be provided by the state governments. Other important decisions taken in today's cabinet meeting also include some guidelines for DTH services. Giving information about this, Minister Prakash Javadekar said that from now the DTH license will be issued for 30 years and its fees have also been reduced quarterly.

Giving another noteworthy information, Javadekar said that now 100 percent foreign investment in DTH will be allowed. The Commerce Ministry had proposed to allow 100 per cent FDI in DTH. The film division was also dissolved. Accordingly, Directorate of Film Festivals, National Film Archives and National Film Development Corporation as well as Children's Film Society were merged into the Film Development Corporation of India.

Javadekar said that the Supreme Court has repeatedly issued orders regarding illegal slums and illegal colonies in Delhi. The court also turned a blind eye to the construction of residential houses on agricultural land in villages, which was enacted in 2011 by the National Capital Territory of Delhi. We have now extended it for three years and a notice will be issued for this.
